Composition of the machines

General pointsLoading skip
The same as for the free shot blasting equipment, the shot blasting machines with turbines are made of 4 sets which constitute very distinct functions which are:
1) - the treatment housing or shot blasting chamber.
2) - the abrasive recovery and conveyance system.
3) - the abrasive recycling and treatment machinery .
4) - the set of ventilation and filtration of dusty air.

These different elements are governed by the "rule book" and "official recommendations" which have to be respected in order to ensure the great course of the operations and the staff safety.

The shot blasting chamber
Knowing the power of the means implemented in the turbines treatment, the shot blasting operations have to be done necessarily in a closed blast room. The abrasive projection to very high speeds, even for low flows, requires the protection of the surrounding staff.
The housing, which ensures the work isolation and the abrasive recovery is also the carrier of the projection turbines, the means of handling and presentation of the parts. It must be therefore particularly robust and well adapted to all the constraints. Its shape and dimensions are very varied. They depend on the kind of machine such as described before and on the characteristics proper to the parts to treat. In any case, the areas of abrasive retention will be avoided.

Accesses
The airtightness at the level of the parts accesses and at the passage of the convoying systems has to be particularly cared, overall in the case of the machines which work continuously (shot blasting tunnels).

Internal screenThe internal protection
The internal surfaces particularly exposed to the shots are protected efficiently through easily interchangeable screening with an acceptable weight for the maintenance staff. (picture opposite)
These screenings are either in reinforced rubber or in metal:
- in cast iron ni-ard to high resistance,
- in manganese steel Z 120 Mn 12,
- in mangano-silicious steel 45 S 8 treated,
or other "rich" steels for very specific cases.

Recovery systems
Generally, it is made of a surface hopper equal to the one of the chamber basis which feeds continuously a transfer Archimedes' screw (helical) towards the mechanical rise unit.

The recycling equipment
As in a free shot cabine (see heading recycling), it is made of a "high flow" bucket elevator which feeds an abrasive purifier with dynamic deviation, fitted or not with a magnetic separator (according to the application, for example : casting).

The ventilation-filtration
In order the dusts do not go out of the equipment, the ventilation system has to maintain always the work housing in depression. To this aim, the speed of the air coming into the housing has to be contained between 3 and 5 m/s.
The dusty air is sucked and conveyed to a dry filter generally, (see filtration) in order to be removed from dust before being thrown back to the atmosphere.

Parts transfer
It is different according to the kind of machine and can be:
With continuous, metallic or rubber carpet, with plates table, with screwing parallel rolls, with diabolos, with rollers, with trolley, with overhead conveyor, with rotary cages, etc..

Loading and unloading of the partsCircling table
It is also different according to the kind of machine and can be done manually or automatically through:
- a transfer plate on rotary tables,
- a handling sector on the merry-go-round shot blasting.
- a skip used on the in bulk treatment machines (see picture on top),
- a loading table at the entrance and the exit of the tunnel.
